But golden tigers — also known as golden tabby tigers or strawberry tigers — are not a subspecies: they’re the result of a genetic mutation that changes the color of their fur. Ramnarayanan spotted the golden tiger, which came within 100 meters of the group, while guiding a safari in the wildlife reserve. The big cat is one of four "golden" tigers in Kaziranga, according to the park's official social media. If Kaziranga’s tiger population becomes more isolated, issues like inbreeding will threaten the population, said Sharma in his post on X. For photographer Ramnarayanan, Kaziranga’s golden tiger was his first sighting of these unusually colored big cats.

Despite billions leaving the firm, Lone Pine Capital ended strong last year. The manager was down 38% and 42% in its hedge fund and long-only strategy, respectively, last year. Bloomberg reported in August that clients had pulled roughly $3 billion out of the firm in the 12 months leading up to July 2023. The firm's strong 2023 performance bested the average hedge fund, which returned less than 8%, according to Hedge Fund Research. Still, the flagship hedge fund strategy trailed the S&P 500, fellow Tiger Cubs like Tiger Global and Coatue, and other tech investors like Whale Rock and Light Street.

Maverick Capital wasn't immune to the private market turmoil that has tanked start-ups and crushed venture capital returns. Like many private investors, Maverick has marked down some of its investments internally as higher interest rates have put pressure on money-losing start-ups. Snapdocs, according to Maverick, should no longer be considered a unicorn, valuing the online mortgage processing company at $628 million. Maverick, which runs a $1.4 billion venture and growth fund, is bullish on a few of its companies, though — even raising their valuations despite the overall market turbulence. Brazilian digital rental marketplace company QuintoAndar is worth 20% more now than when Maverick invested at the end of 2021.

REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Ross Brawn is tipping a resurgent McLaren to take the fight to dominant Red Bull and triple world champion Max Verstappen next season. So, I think with that improvement going into next season they can be a real threat. Brawn was also optimistic Ferrari would improve under Fred Vasseur's guidance but recognised Red Bull would not be standing still and had the added benefit of being able to switch attention early to next year's car. Red Bull have so far won 19 of 20 races, with Verstappen triumphant 17 times -- a record for a single season that he can extend in Las Vegas this weekend -- and team mate Sergio Perez twice. I think sometimes when you get a team dominating you'd hope that both drivers would be fighting each other and that hasn't happened with Red Bull, which is a shame," said Brawn.

FOUR PAWS/Handout via REUTERSJuly 27 (Reuters) - A rare white tiger cub rescued from a private owner in the Czech Republic has found a new home at a sanctuary in Germany this week, animal welfare group FOUR PAWS said on Thursday. The group, with the help of the Czech Environment Ministry, transferred the tiger, named Charlota, to its TIERART Wild Animal Sanctuary on Wednesday, from a Czech zoo than had been its temporary home after Czech authorities confiscated it last year. Authorities had seized Charlota from its private owner after the individual posted pictures of it on social media, prompting an investigation. Securities filings released this week signaled that many hedge funds also appear to be catching the AI bug. Betting on AI heavyweights Alphabet popped up as one of the most common AI plays among big investors in the first quarter. Microsoft bet billions on AI capabilities, funneling another multibillion-dollar investment in January into ChatGPT maker OpenAI. Beyond Alphabet and Microsoft Outside heavyweight giants Alphabet and Microsoft, many hedge funds beefed up other AI-related holdings in the first quarter. His Nvidia bet equaled roughly $1.4 billion at the end of March.
In the hedge fund industry, tech investors like the "Tiger Cubs" Philippe Laffont and Chase Coleman grab a lot of attention, but the best stock picker in the sector lately is far less well-known. It is derived by comparing the performance of equities in the fund based on regulatory filings with that of a sector exchange-traded fund. Shannon River has $2.1 billion in asset under management, recently disclosed $443 million in long equity positions. The hedge fund, founded in 2003 by managing partner Spencer Waxman , runs a concentrated portfolio, with its top 10 positions accounting for 82% of the disclosed portfolio in the first quarter. Nice Ltd. , an enterprise software provider, was another top pick for Shannon River.
Tiger Global Management made a new bet on Apple in the first quarter, while expanding positions in some major technology players that posted a strong start to the year. Tiger also upped its stake in technology leaders Alphabet, Amazon and Microsoft in the first quarter. The latest securities filings also showed Tiger exited small positions in Roblox , Warby Parker and Pinduoduo parent PDD Holdings . Coleman founded Tiger Global in 2001. He is widely known as one of the Tiger Cub hedge fund managers who worked at Tiger Management under Julian Robertson.
Meta became Coatue's biggest holding at the end of March, with a stake worth $1.7 billion, the filing showed. The Facebook parent has been one of the biggest winners in the tech sector this year, rising nearly 100%. Chip giant Nvidia was Coatue's second-biggest holding at the end of March after the hedge fund raised the stake slightly. The New York-based fund also upped its AMD stake dramatically last quarter, making it its seventh-largest holding. The hedge fund also picked up Taiwan Semiconductor , building a new stake worth more than $500 million.
KARACHI, Pakistan, April 22 (Reuters) - Noor Jehan, an elephant in Pakistan's Karachi Zoo whose illness revived criticisms of the nation's zoos, died on Saturday despite frantic efforts to treat her, officials said. The critically ill 17-year-old elephant had fallen into a pond this month and been unable to get up without help. The director of the Karachi Zoo was removed this month over complaints of negligence. A court in 2020 ordered the closure of the Islamabad Zoo, where the elephant Kaavan was kept. Khalil said Karachi Zoo did not meet international standards and urged that Madhubala, the healthy elephant remaining at the zoo, be relocated to a more species-appropriate place to give her a chance at a better life.

REUTERS/Stelios MisinasATHENS, March 17 (Reuters) - Greek veterinarians are fighting to save a white tiger cub abandoned in a rubbish bin at an Athens zoo, believed to be a victim of the illegal wildlife trade. The three-month old white tiger was found on Feb. 28 under a garbage bin in the parking lot of the Attica Zoological Park by a cleaner, who notified the zoo owner. "It is the first time ever we had such an animal dumped outside our zoo," said zoo founder Jean-Jacques Lesueur. Lesueur said if the tiger survives it will have to be relocated to a sanctuary, as the zoo has no other animals of its kind.
